    ADG/ED’s impression

2011.3.25 ADG-ED Mr Qian TANG visited-by SCT (250).JPG Following the HLG meeting, and taking advantage of being in the Asian sub-region, I visited Viet Nam and Cambodia. I met the Vice-Ministers of Education of the two countries, both of whom told me that the quality of education is their biggest challenge. They explained that they are very happy with the support provided by UNESCO and wish to strengthen co-operation with us. We discussed possible further cooperation in capacity building on education quality and management. In Hanoi, I met with representatives of our UN country partners (UNICEF, ILO, UNFPA, UN Women, IOM and UNAIDS) – they are quite positive regarding cooperation with UNESCO in education. I also had a very interesting discussion with UNESCO staff in the country offices on their activities and the challenges they face in implementing the ED programme. I must say that I was most impressed with how hard-working they are!
