THE ORGANIZATION

Signing of an Agreement between UNESCO and Australia

On 29 July 2008, UNESCO signed an agreement with the Government of Australia for an amount of AU$ 2 million to support UNESCO’s Word Heritage activities

The agreement sets the framework for cooperation between the Government of Australia- Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts
and UNESCO to support World Heritage activities. The objective of the Australian government’s support is to contribute, through UNESCO, to the identification, protection and presentation of World Heritage in the Asia-Pacific region, with a particular priority for projects in the Pacific region, as well as other activities which are related to the World Heritage Convention.
The contribution of AU$ 2 million complements the amount of AU$ 500,000 UNESCO received in 2007 from the Government of Australia (the Department of the Environment, water, Heritage and the Arts) to serve the same objectives.
