Over the last decades, many documents and other publications relating to 'Sustainable capacity development and ESD' in SIDS regions have been produced by UNESCO and its specialized institutes. Some of these materials can be accessed through the web-sites of the sponsoring units, programmes and institutes as well as the relevant regional offices. Or through using the documentation and bibliographic sources of the Organization, including the Education Sector's Documentation and Information Service. There follows a sampling of 'pre-January 2005' publications and other materials relating to the concerns of this chapter of the Mauritius Strategy. The EFA Assessment was based on two sub-regional reports and 14 thematic issues/case studies, which led to a determination of the basic education needs of the sub-region.
