On 24 January 2006 during the Sixth African Union Summit of Heads of State and Government in Khartoum, Sudan, Mr Koïchiro Matsuura, Director-General of UNESCO and Alpha Oumar Konaré, President of the African Union Commission, signed an agreement which updates, the cooperation framework between UNESCO and the African Union which was set up in 1968.
