Trade: globalization and trade liberalization

The aim of this website is to provide information on UNESCO's response to the implementation of the Programme of Action for the Sustainable Development of Small Island Developing States, encapsulated in the Mauritius Strategy and the Mauritius Declaration adopted by the International Meeting held in Mauritius in January 2005.

UNESCO has no central role in debates and negotiations on trade globalization and trade liberalization. There are however trade and economic development dimensions in several of its programmes and projects, which are taken up under the Organization’s contribution to other chapters of the Mauritius Strategy (left). Examples include tourism in World Heritage sites (Chapters 8 and 9) and the promotion of cultural industries (Chapter 19).
