Signature of a funding agreement on support to Arabic language in UNESCO

During a ceremony held at UNESCO Headquarters on 17 September 2010, the Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova, and the Under Secretary-General of the General People’s Committee for Education and Scientific Research of the Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, Dr Mohamed El Ferjani Al-Husn, signed an agreement for an amount of USD 1 million in support to the improvement of the presence of the Arabic language in UNESCO.

The objective of the programme is to enhance the presence of the Arabic language in UNESCO’s activities. The programme will run for an initial period of three years. It will include inter alia further development of UNESCO portal, strengthening of relations with the media in Arabic-speaking countries, as well as translation, production and distribution in Arabic of key publications and other information materials.
