UNESCO to support a Training Workshop on Promoting HIV & AIDS Awareness among Provincial Information Officers and Journalists

From 02-11-2010 to 02-11-2010 (Cambodia)

UNESCO to support a Training Workshop on Promoting HIV & AIDS Awareness among Provincial Information Officers and Journalists

UNESCO, in partnership with Khmer HIV/AIDS NGO Alliance (KHANA), will support a Training Workshop on Promoting Awareness among Provincial Information Officers and Journalists on 02 November 2010 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

The training will be organized by the National AIDS Authority (NAA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Information and will include around 60 participants. It aims to promote awareness on the HIV situation and the national HIV response; to highlight the role of media professionals in contributing to the HIV response; and to provide some guidance on terminology for HIV and AIDS reporting in the media.

It will also give an opportunity to information officers and journalists to reflect on their previous and current work regarding HIV and AIDS and to show their commitment to the issue.

UNESCO has been working closely with NAA and other partners in the country for the past several years to promote HIV awareness among journalists and media people, to encourage more media coverage on HIV and AIDS, and to eliminate unintended stigma/discrimination toward people living with HIV through appropriate use of language on HIV reporting.
