Designing culturally appropriate programming in response to HIV and AIDS

Designing culturally appropriate programming in response to HIV and AIDS

This e-Learning is designed for development practitioners working in response to HIV and AIDS. It is intended to provide guidance on how to develop and implement culturally appropriate HIV and AIDS programs.

Working together with Kineo, an award winning e-learning provider, UNESCO developed the following training for the design of culturally appropriate HIV and AIDS programs. This eLearning is intended for development practitioners working in response to HIV and AIDS to provide guidance on how to take a community’s culture into account when conceiving and implementing an intervention.

It is ideally suited for program officers in the field, working directly with communities. It is also intended for practitioners working in centralised offices to help them understand what culturally appropriate approaches are and how they might assist their organisations to respond better in this manner.

The eLearning contains 5 training modules:

What is a cultural Approach?
Catalyzing Change
Structural Factors
Participation and Ownership
Tools and Tips

These modules are intended as a set but each module can be completed individually, at the user’s own pace. One module takes approximately 25 minutes to complete. The entire eLearning with all 5 modules can be accessed here.
