The Culture, HIV and AIDS programme organized two events within UNESCO's contribution to the International AIDS Conference held in Mexico City, Mexico from 3-8 August 2008.

For the first event, the CI and CLT Sectors have collaborated to develop and conduct a skills building workshop titled Responsible Media Coverage: Culture, Gender and Human Rights in HIV and AIDS Reporting held during the conference 6 August. The workshop was co-facilitated by UNESCO, INTERNEWS and the Global Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS.

As a second event, the Culture, HIV and AIDS project hosted the photo-voice exhibit, Unheard Voices, Hidden Lives created by the International HIV/AIDS Alliance and Photovoice through an initiative called the Frontiers Prevention Project. Included as part of the conference's Cultural Programme, this exhibit presented the experiences of people living at the frontiers of the global HIV epidemic who used photography to tell the story of their lives and those of their communities.
