HIV and AIDS

Children living with and/or affected by HIV, Fuyang, Anhui province, China

Children living with and/or affected by HIV, Fuyang, Anhui province, China

This project is located in Fuyang city, Anhui province with a goal to create a supportive social environment for children living with and/or affected by HIV in the city through the identification of the unmet needs of these children and providing them with psychological, social and financial support.

The project is funded by the Children in Need Programme.

The difficulties these children are facing include: poverty, psychological traumas and various kinds of social pressure, and stigmatization and discrimination at school.

Activities thus far include:
(1) needs assessment to identify needs of both people living with HIV and children affected by HIV;
(2) community based awareness raising activities (at local schools as well as within local communities);
(3) capacity building for NGO staff and volunteers.
