In a statement at the eve of the XVII International AIDS Conference in Mexico City, UNESCO's Director-General, Mr Koïchiro Matsuura, expressed his concern that young people are at the centre of the global AIDS crisis and are disproportionately affected by the epidemic.
He emphasized the importance of providing evidence-based and age-appropriate sex, relationships and HIV education, in which schools have an important role.
