Bolivian President Evo Morales Ayma visits UNESCO

The President of Bolivia, Evo Morales Ayma, conducted an official visit to UNESCO on 17 February accompanied by senior officials.

After a private meeting with the Director-General of UNESCO, Koïchiro Matsuura, the Head of State gave a 20-minute public address during which he spoke of progress achieved by Bolivia in literacy and of the recent establishment of a Ministry of Cultures. He also welcomed the cooperation of UNESCO with his country's projects concerning tangible and intangible heritage, education and the sciences. This was the second visit of President Morales to UNESCO. The first took place in May 2006.
