Tripartite cooperation between UNESCO, the Georgian Parliament and the French Senate

A field of cooperation on the preservation and safeguard of cultural heritage of the Caucasus region was established between the French Senate, the Caucasus deputies and UNESCO.

Following the visit paid by Ms Nino Bourdjanadze, President of the Georgian Parliament, accompanied by Mr Petre Metreveli, parliamentary focal point for UNESCO, to the Director-General on 3rd November 2004 and to Mr Poncelet, President of the French Senate, a field of cooperation on the preservation and safeguard of cultural heritage of the Caucasus region was established between the French Senate, the Caucasus deputies and our organization. In the framework of this tripartite cooperation a meeting on Caucasus cultural heritage was held on 23rd March 2005 at UNESCO Headquarters, in the presence of the delegates of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia, a delegate of the French Senate and two representatives of ODIT France, a consulting body charged by the French Senate with setting up “cultural tourism” in the Caucasus Sub-region. Each stakeholder supported this cooperation and expressed its will to participate and to back up the development of cultural tourism in the Caucasus region.
