UNESCO-Sony Ericsson WTA Tour Partnership - nomination ceremony of Ms Jie Zheng, Beijing, 17 September 2007
The nomination ceremony of Ms Jie Zheng, Chinese tennis player, as “Promoter of Gender Quality” for the UNESCO-Sony Ericsson WTA Tour Partnership took place on 17 September 2007 in Beijing (China). Together with Venus Williams (USA) and Tatiana Golovin (FRA), who were previously named “Promoters of Gender Equality”, Ms Zheng will be a key factor in the successful implementation of the partnership as she will provide a role model for millions of girls and young women around the world.
 
Zheng Jie jumping_1.jpg The nomination ceremony in Beijing took place during the China Open Tournament and was attended by H. Exc. Mr. Xinsheng Zhang, Chairperson of UNESCO’s Executive Board, Ms Gülser Corat, Chief of the Section for the Division for Gender Equality of the Bureau of Strategic Planning (BSP/GE), the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour CEO Larry Scott and other representatives of the Tour. The event lasted for about one hour with speeches from the UNESCO and Sony Ericsson-WTA officials, and an acceptance speech by the tennis player followed by a reception.
