This event took place in the framework of an Expert Group Meeting organised on 4 and 5 October in UNESCO Headquarters, with a view to contributing to a volume on this same topic to be published jointly by the Social Science Research Council and UNESCO.
The meeting brought together a small number of concerned scholars whose work addresses the question of how and why the response to the HIV epidemic is failing women, particularly young women and girls.
The intended outcome of the meeting will be a short and incisive volume addressed to academics, activists and policy-makers. We aim for the volume to be global in scope, including work on emerging epidemics in India and China, including regions with less-developed or under-recognized epidemics, as in Eurasia, and those with advanced pandemics. UNESCO and SSRC also aim to include senior authors and new scholars from affected regions and different professional perspectives.
Professor Vinh-Kim Nguyen’s talk has been followed by an open discussion moderated by Ms Gülser Corat, Chief of the Section for Women and Gender Equality of the Bureau of Strategic Planning.
We are pleased to present you the video of this event.
