8th Forum on Gender Equality WALKING, DRAWING. HERE AND ELSEWHERE - WOMEN ARTISTS OF QUEBEC IN THE WIDE WORLD The eighth UNESCO Forum on Gender Equality, organized in collaboration with the Délégation générale du Québec in Paris, was held on 16 February 2010.

 
Within the framework of the activities of the Chaire d’études du Québec contemporain at the Université Sorbonne Nouvelle – Paris 3, the seminar focused on the theme "Walking, Drawing. Here and Elsewhere”, with the presence of Ms. Renee Lavaillante, visual artist.

Ms. S. Gülser Corat, Director, Division for Gender Equality, Bureau of Strategic Planning and Mr. Michel Audet, Representative of the Quebec Government, Permanent Delegation of Canada to UNESCO, opened the forum by introducing Ms. Renee Lavaillante and Ms. Micheline Cambron, Chairholder of the Chaire d’études du Québec contemporain at the Université Sorbonne Nouvelle –Paris 3, and Professor at the University of Montreal.

Ms. Renée Lavaillante lives in Montreal and is dedicated to the practice of drawing: independent drawings, in situ installations and artist books. Since 1988, she has presented exhibitions in Quebec, France, South Korea and Italy. She has also participated in collective exhibitions in Quebec, Canada, the United Kingdom and Belgium.

Ms. Lavaillante has moreover lived as a resident artist at the Centre européen d’actions artistiques contemporaines (CEAAC) in Strasbourg, in the House with a view in Saigon, at the Museum of Modern Art in Collioure and in the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris. Ms. Lavaillante often uses the theme of walking to explore the drawing as a trace of an action or a communication.
