9th UNESCO Forum on Gender Equality "Finding the country within" – Women Artists of Quebec in the Wide World. The ninth UNESCO Forum on Gender Equality, organized in collaboration with the Délégation générale du Québec in Paris, was held on 16 March 2010.

 
Within the framework of the activities of the Chaire d’études du Québec contemporain at the Université Sorbonne Nouvelle – Paris 3, the seminar will focus on the theme “Finding the Country Within”, with the presence of Ms. Celine El Masri, documentary and fiction film director.

Ms. S. Gülser Corat, Director, Division for Gender Equality, Bureau of Strategic Planning and Mr. Michel Audet, Representative of the Quebec Government, Permanent Delegation of Canada to UNESCO, will open the forum which will feature Ms. Céline El Masri and Ms. Micheline Cambron, Chairholder of the Chaire d’études du Québec contemporain at the Université Sorbonne Nouvelle –Paris 3, and Professor at the University of Montreal.

Ms. Céline El Masri is pursuing a filmmaking career while teaching film at the College Edouard-Montpetit. Having studied mainly moviemaking along with theatre and literature, her Quebec and Egyptian origins inspire significantly her art work.

Ms. El Masri has directed two documentaries: "Who knows. Three open books" (2004) and "Letters in the Sand "(2005). The documentaries focus on the conditions under which women acquire their knowledge in different settings (Quebec and rural Egypt). Ms. El Masri has also produced art films and fictions.

The Forum concluded with a discussion session with the audience.
