Aimed at enhancing human resources and national capacity-building in least developed countries (LDCs) in Africa, Asia and the Pacific Regions, these fellowships will enable candidates to conduct research work or participate in a training course in the Republic of Korea. Given that UNESCO and the Government of the Republic of Korea grant priority to gender equality, special attention will be given to women's candidatures. English is the medium of instruction.

Least Developed Countries in Africa & Asia - Pacific


Field of Study

The field of study is "Education". The specific subject areas under this field of study are as follow:


The field of study is aligned with UNESCO’s objectives and programme priorities approved in 34 C/5 and in accordance with the decision made by the Executive Board (i.e. 161 EX/Decision 3.6.3 and 165 EX/Decision 8.6).

Duration: 17 May 2012 - 16 July 2012 (61 days)




Guidelines:




QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

UNESCO will solicit applications from least developed countries (LDCs) in Africa and Asia and the Pacific regions (see Annex I of the announcement letter).

A. Candidatures must comply with the following criteria:


B. All applications must be endorsed by the Minsitry of Education or National Commission for UNESCO of invited Member States and must be made on a UNESCO fellowship application form

C. The implementing agency in the Republic of Korea will be the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding (APCEIU).

D. The following documents must be attached to the application form in duplicate:



E. Each invited Member State will be requested to nominate (not more than) two (2) candidates.

F. National Commissions of invited Member States are requested to submit the applications /candidatures along with ALL supporting documentation. Files which are incomplete or received after the deadline for submission of applications/candidatures, or do not fulfill the above-mentioned requirements, will not be taken into consideration.

G. UNESCO will submit the pre-selected applications to KOICA and APCEIU for final selection with copy to the Permanent Delegation of the Republic of Korea to UNESCO. It is understood that KOICA will cooperate with APCEIU in the evaluation and approval of these files during the final selection.


SELECTION OF BENEFICIARIES

1. The final selection of beneficiaries lies with KOICA and APCEIU.

2. Candidates not informed of their selection by 25 April 2011 should consider that the donor Government has not approved their applications.


FACILITIES OFFERED BY THE GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF KOREA

1. Beneficiaries of these fellowships will be exempt from tuition fees for the duration of study/training programme.

2. Fellows will undertake studies/training under the supervision of an advisor or a study director designated by the host institution.

3. The donor Government will pay stipends to beneficiaries on a monthly basis, in local currency. The stipends are intended to cover the cost towards living expenses such as accommodation, meals, pocket expenses, and incidentals.

4. The donor will determine the stipend amount to be granted to beneficiaries.

5. The donor Government will offer the health insurance.

FACILITIES OFFERED BY UNESCO

1. UNESCO will cover the cost of airfare to and from Seoul and a one-time travel allowance amounting to US $200 per beneficiary.


OTHER CONDITIONS

1. No provision to finance or lodge beneficiary’s’ family members can be made.

2. A comprehensive final report, co-signed by beneficiaries’ advisors or study/training directors should be communicated to UNESCO with copy to KOICA and APCEIU not later than one (1) month after completion of training.

Asia & the Pacific

Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Kiribati, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu.
