UNESCO at the XVII International AIDS Conference in Mexico
On the occasion of the XVII International AIDS Conference, held in Mexico from 3 – 8 August 2008, UNESCO held a series of events and presentations highlighting its work in the domain of HIV & AIDS education.

Mexico Posterthumbnail.bmp As part of UNESCO’s contribution to the International Conference, twenty poster exhibitions presenting UNESCO’s interdisciplinary work on HIV and AIDS from across the world were on display. Among them, the Division for Gender Equality of the Bureau of Strategic Planning contributed a poster highlighting its up-coming volume “The Fourth Wave: An Assault on Women. Gender, Culture and HIV&AIDS; in the 21st Century.” The volume, developed by the Division for Gender Equality of the Bureau of Strategic Planning and the Social Science Research Council, in collaboration with the Division for Cultural Policies and Intercultural Dialogue, brings together research by nearly 30 accomplished authors, senior policy makers, and young scholars. The Volume offers original insights and empirical analyses of socio-cultural factors shaping the gendered course of the pandemic and responses to it.
