Workshop on the National Action Plan for the Implementation of the 1972 World Heritage Convention concerning the protection of the world Cultural and Natural Heritage

A one-day workshop on the National Action Plan for the Implementation of the 1972 World Heritage Convention concerning the protection of the world Cultural and Natural Heritage was held in Windhoek on 24 January 2004.

The workshop was attended by a selected members of the National and Technical Committee on the Implementation of the World Heritage Convention, from different Ministries and Institutions in the region (National Monuments Council, National Museum of Namibia, Rössing Foundation, Literacy Trust, Polytechnic of Namibia, Ministry of Higher Education National Commission, Ministry of Basic Education, Sports and Culture, Ministry of Lands, Resettlement and Rehabilitation, Ministry of Mines and Energy and UNESCO Office Windhoek.

Dr. Weber Ndoro from ICCROM facilitated the workshop and Dr. Claudia Harvey, the Director of UNESCO Windhoek and Mr. Stanley Simataa, deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Basic Education, Sports and Culture officiated at the Opening Ceremony of the workshop.

The objective of this workshop was attained: to develop the initial draft of the National Action Plan, which was drafted following the Sub – Regional Workshop on Institutional Development, and Capacity Building held in September 2001 (Windhoek), into a National Strategy.
