Gender-sensitive indicators for media
The aim of the Gender-Sensitive Indicators for Media (GSIM) is to contribute to gender equality and women’s empowerment in and through media of all forms, irrespective of the technology used. The main focus of the publication is on the equality and gender dimensions of social diversity in the media.

This Manual embodies the rich experience gained from UNESCO workshops in Asia and the Pacific, sub-Saharan Africa and the Arab States. Designed to be a road map for conducting trainings of a similar nature, it is a product of UNESCO efforts during the last twelve years to increase awareness of gender issues, suggest guidelines for a gender-sensitive approach to education, and promote respect for the equally valid roles that men and women play in their families, their communities and their nations.

ICTs could give a major boost to the economic, political and social empowerment of women, and the promotion of gender equality. This comic strip is a story inspired by the figure of Gisèle Rabesahala, a Malagasy woman politician of the twentieth century, who devoted her life to her country’s independence, human rights and the freedom of peoples. The illustrations are based on historical and iconographic research, the Royal Hill of Ambohimanga and twentieth century Madagascar. This publication is part of the Women in African History Series.
Global Forum Power of Peace: Building Peace through Communication and Information, Bali, Indonesia, 21-23 January 2007; final report
UNESCO in association with the Government of Indonesia hosted an International Forum ‘Power of Peace’ in Bali, from 21 to 23 January 2007. Recognized thinkers and practitioners from the public and private sectors met to develop strategies to best harness the power of the media and ICTs in a practical and effective way for the purpose of building awareness, dialogue, harmony and peace.

UNESCO and COMNET-IT have undertaken a first step in investigating the international state of the art of on-line governance, as exemplified by government-led initiatives for the electronic provision of information services, and of public input to the process of government. This first stage has been concluded with the present survey report resulting from data polled from sixty-two countries and an Internet-based facility from which the data can be queried and accessed (http://www.comnet.mt/Unesco/).
