UNESCO Chair in the Development of Youth through Sports Activities (981), established in 2012 at The Korea Institute of Sport Science (KISS) (Republic of Korea).

Fields/Disciplines

Sports and youth development.

Objectives

The specific objectives of this Chair are to:

  • carry out research on the positive role of sports in youth development,  involve young researchers and students from the country or the region in the research studies and provide guidance as required;
  • develop and test an applicable, practical approach as an alternative to current methods, to address youth problems and enhance adolescents’ quality of life;
  • organize seminars, workshops and international fora to facilitate networking, sharing of information and examples of good practices in the field of sports and their role in youth development, as well as create a dedicated website, publish books and other material, and help develop innovative technological applications to disseminate knowledge and raise awareness; and,
  • contribute to UNESCO’s youth and sports programme, notably through support to follow-up on the recommendations of the 7th UNESCO Youth Forum relating to youth engagement and sport.
