UNESCO Chair on Emerging Global Social and Ethical Challenges for Large Cities and their Population (894), established in 2010 at Lomonosov Moscow State University (Russian Federation)
Fields/Disciplines: Socio-demographic, socio-economic, socio-cultural and ethical challenges.
Objectives:
The specific objectives of this Chair are:
- in line with UNESCO’s priorities and the United Nations Millennium Development Goals, to facilitate the creation and development of a database and monitoring network for social processes in countries that are experiencing social transformation, such as the Russian Federation as well as other countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States, Eastern Europe and Asia;
- to conduct research and establish guidelines on social, socio-demographic, socio-economic, socio-cultural and ethical challenges coming up in the process of globalization, particularly the increase migration and information exchange in Moscow and in other large cities;
- to train experts and prepare aggregated expert opinions on prospects for future development in the field of global social and ethical emerging challenges, especially in large cities, and provide recommendations to governmental bodies and social organizations that aim at overcoming the negative consequences of social processes;
- to provide interdisciplinary education programmes dedicated to prospective studies, ethics and social development, migration, mathematical models and forecasts for social processes;
- to set national, regional and international instruments in order to disseminate and exchange the results of research in the fields related to global social and ethical challenges, such as a web portal, Intellectual Clubs for experts, conferences and publications.
