International Day of Commemoration in Memory of Victims of the Holocaust

The International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust is placed under the theme “Antisemitic Propaganda and the Holocaust: From Words to Genocide”. On this occasion, UNESCO will commemorate the genocide perpetrated against the Jewish people and other Nazi crimes and address the deadly potential of propaganda and violent extremist ideologies.

The day will start with a round-table on this year’s theme, featuring distinguished academics, United Nations and OSCE representatives and members of civil society organizations. The theme will be explored through two discussions: A History of Hate Speech and Genocide and In the Shadow of the Past: Countering Antisemitism and Hate Speech Today.

The Official Ceremony will follow featuring keynote addresses by eminent political personalities, a Holocaust survivor, and a concert from the French Army Choir.

Two exhibitions will be concurrently presented: ‘State of Deception: The Power of Nazi Propaganda’ presented by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum will run from 25 January to 11 February and ‘A is for Adolf: Teaching German Children Nazi Values’ by the Weiner Library will be shown from 25 January to 28 February.

The events are organized in cooperation with the Shoah Memorial, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and France Culture, with the financial support of the World Jewish Congress, the Permanent Delegation of Germany to UNESCO, the Permanent Delegation of Latvia to UNESCO and of HP.
