UNESCO in Brazil is sponsoring a seminar on "Education on sexuality and gender relationships in the curricula of basic teacher training” in Sao Paulo on Thursday 26 November 2015.  The preliminary results of a survey, of public and private universities in the country, which UNESCO in Brazil has undertaken on the subject, will be presented at the event.

Issues related to sexuality and gender relations are a daily part of life in schools. Although they have a direct impact on learning and in truancy, these issues are not always addressed in sufficient depth in the curricula of teacher training in undergraduate courses.

With the intention of painting the scene as it really is in Brazilian universities, UNESCO coordinated the "national survey of teacher training courses in public and private tertiary education institutions in Brazil on the inclusion of such topics as: education on sexuality and gender relations in the curricula of basic teacher training".  Find more here. 

The seminar will present positive accounts of incorporating these themes into the curricula along with the challenges and opportunities it presents.

UNESCO in Brazil’s intention is to support tertiary institutions with information to help them in the incorporation of the issue of education in sexuality and gender relations in basic teacher training. The seminar will be attended by administrators and educators from public and private universities and as well specialists in education.
