This Workshop will discuss a strategy and action plan for strengthening the safeguarding of the intangible cultural heritage in Samoa by making use of different policy instruments and practical tools made available through UNESCO’s programme in this field. The Workshop will also examine the opportunity presented by the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. Participants including parliamentarians, traditional chiefs and representative of cultural institutions and women’s association are expected to attend this Workshop. The 2nd day of the Workshop will be devoted to the presentations by national experts on different ICH aspects, such as language, tatooing, boat building, handicrafts, flower arrangements, performing arts, wood carving, etc. The Workshop will also address the issues relating to the integrated heritage safeguarding and the role of museums. The Workshop will be held in cooperation with the Samoa National Commission for UNESCO.
