Equatorial Guinea

    Equatorial Guinea joined UNESCO on 29 November 1979. The country is covered by the Organization’s Office in Libreville (Gabon).

    Capacity-building in education is UNESCO’s main area of activity in Equatorial Guinea. The country launched a project in 2006 for training science teachers. It is also reinforcing the skills of Ministry of Education staff.

    Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, President of Equatorial Guinea, visited UNESCO in 2007 during the General Conference. He announced plans to create a UNESCO prize for the safeguarding of biodiversity.

    In June 2007, UNESCO gave a training workshop to Equatorial Guinea News Agency media professionals.
