Cape Verde joined UNESCO on February 15, 1978. The country is covered by the UNESCO Regional Office for Education in Africa, Dakar, Senegal. A project for capacity-building through distance education in Cape Verde is currently being implemented.
Cape Verde also participates in UNESCO's Teacher Training Initiative for sub-Saharan Africa (TTISSA), a 10-year project aimed at restructuring national teacher policies in 46 sub-Saharan countries.
Cape Verde is one of the eight countries which have volunteered to participate in the “One UN” pilot initiative. This will test how the UN family – with its many and diverse agencies - can deliver in a more coordinated way at country level.
