Côte d’Ivoire joined UNESCO on October 27, 1960. The country is covered by the Organization's office in Accra, Ghana.

In the field of education, efforts are concentrated on rebuilding education systems, strengthening capacities in preventive education and the fight against HIV and AIDS and the training of teachers in the areas of peace and citizenship.

As of September 2006, fourteen schools in Côte d’Ivoire were members of the UNESCO Associated Schools Project Network (ASPnet).
