The country hosts a UNESCO Cluster Office in Bamako, which covers Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger.

A UNESCO-EOLSS Chair of education and research on environment was established in 2001 at the University of Bamako to promote an integrated system of research, training, documentation and international collaboration in the field of environment with a focus on the Niger Basin.

At present, Mali is part of two UNESCO earth science projects, both of which involve studying the formation of the African continent. It was also one of the first countries to participate in the World Water Assessment Programme (WWAP) case study process, and still provides valuable data to the programme today.

Below you can access the projects that are currently being implemented in the country within the framework of UNESCO’s Natural Sciences Sector.
