    The Islamic Republic of Iran joined UNESCO on September 6, 1948. The country hosts a Cluster Office in Tehran which also covers Afghanistan, Pakistan and Turkmenistan.

    Accomplishments of the country’s collaboration with UNESCO include the establishment of a Youth Information Centre in December 2001.

    The centre provides young people with access to information and youth activities as well as education opportunities. The country holds three UNESCO chairs and maintains a UNEVOC centre. As of September 2006, Iran has 17 schools participating in the UNESCO’s Associated Schools Project Network (ASPnet).
