The country is covered by the UNESCO Cluster Office in Beijing, China.

 

Mongolia's territory forms an important part of the global ecosystem in the ecological transition zone in Central Asia, where the great Siberian taiga, the Central Asian steppe, the high Altai Mountains, and the Gobi desert converge.

As it undergoes a rapid economic and social transition, its fragile ecosystems face increasing threats and challenges. There are currently five biosphere reserves listed under UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere programme (MAB) in Mongolia, and it is involved in several research projects relating to earth sciences, mountain ecosystems and Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM).
