The country is covered by the UNESCO Office in Apia, Samoa.

Vanuatu is particularly interested in enhancing the role of indigenous knowledge in the country’s environmental management. UNESCO is helping the country to redesign its science curricula to incorporate key elements of the vast body of indigenous knowledge that continues to thrive in the archipelago, thus presenting indigenous and scientific knowledge systems side-by-side.
