Cooperation between Viet Nam and UNESCO involves several fields.

Activity round the heritage is a constant. The country has three cultural and two natural sites inscribed on the World Heritage List. The safeguarding of the My Son Sanctuary is one example of UNESCO's close cooperation with Viet Nam, which is also very active in the training of experts, youth education and the conservation of urban cultural sites.

Regarding intangible heritage, Vietnamese Court Music or Nha nhac and the Space of Gong Culture were proclaimed Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity in 2003 and 2005 respectively.

Safeguarding cultural diversity lies at the heart of the concerns of this country, which ratified the Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions in 2007. Projects in support of crafts and training in ancient artistic techniques make it possible to link income-generating activities to preservation of various traditions. The cultural approach to HIV/Aids prevention and care is another area in which much has been accomplished.
