Armenia joined UNESCO on June 9, 1992. The country is covered by the UNESCO Office Moscow, Russian Federation. In July 2003, Mr Ara Abramian, an internationally recognized advocate for human rights and peace, was designated UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Dialogue among Civilizations.

As of September 2006, Armenia has 20 schools participating in the UNESCO’s Associated Schools Project Network (ASPnet).
