Estonia

Estonia joined UNESCO on October 14, 1991.

It cooperates with UNESCO on several projects in education. The country has a UNESCO Chair in Civics and Multi-cultural Studies.

UNESCO and Estonia work together to develop national tourism and open intercultural dialogue in the Baltic region. The project “Cultural Tourism in the Baltic Countries” was launched in 2002.

The historic centre of Tallinn, the Estonian capital, was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1997 as an outstanding example of a medieval northern European trading city.

Estonia claims two masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity: the Kihnu Cultural Space and the Baltic Song and Dance Celebrations (with Latvia and Lithuania).
