World heritage is one of the principal areas of cooperation between the Netherlands and UNESCO. There are seven Dutch cultural sites on the World Heritage List, and the Netherlands supports the implementation of the
Convention concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage through a Funds-in-Trust programme.

In the field of intangible cultural heritage, the Netherlands actively participated in the preparatory work for the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.
