Tajikistan

Tajikistan joined UNESCO on April 6, 1993. It is covered by the UNESCO Cluster Office in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

Tajikistan initiated the International Year of Freshwater proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in 2003. It cooperates actively with UNESCO on freshwater issues and earth sciences projects.

Collaboration with UNESCO also established the Technological University of Tajikistan Computer Centre (TUTCC) for training in ICT use.

The preservation of the Buddhist Monastery of Ajina Tepe, launched in 2005, is part of a series of conservation projects organized by UNESCO along the Silk Roads.

The music tradition of Shashmaqom in Tajikistan and Uzbekistan was proclaimed a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity in 2003.
