Belize

Belize joined UNESCO on May 10, 1982. The country is covered by the Organization's office in Kingston, Jamaica.

UNESCO launched two regional projects in Belize in May 2005 with the aim of reducing poverty. One of the projects addresses the problem of poverty in isolated indigenous communities with a strategy of integrated community media and the creation of multimedia products.

The Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System is inscribed on the World Heritage List, and the language, dance and music of the Garifuna were proclaimed Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity in 2001.
