The Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System, which is inscribed on the World Heritage List, receives support from the World Heritage Centre in the framework of its Marine Programme.

The Youth Path Project has been implemented on the Sapodilla Cayes Marine Reserve to stimulate tourism while preserving the site's ecosystem.

The language, dance and music of the Garifuna were proclaimed Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity in 2001. An action plan has been established with these traditional expressions, which Belize shares with Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua, in order to facilitate their preservation and transmission.
