The country is covered by the National UNESCO Office in Brasilia.

A distinguishing feature of Brazil is its exceptional biodiversity. It is home to 20% of the known living species on earth.

There are 6 biosphere reserves in Brazil, covering a huge surface of 128,118,348 hectares, in addition to the World Heritage Biodiversity Programme for Brazil, which seeks to preserve this biodiversity in some of the Brazilian properties inscribed on the World Heritage List.

There is a Latin American Centre of Physics (CLAF) operating under the auspices of UNESCO in Rio de Janeiro.

A UNESCO Chair on Water, Women and Development that was established at the Federal university of Ouro Preto is part of the Women, Sciences, Technology and Development Network. This network was created to help universities serve the development of their country while contributing to an increase of the number of women scientists and engineers.

Theses chairs are run by women to promote women, science, sustainable development and integrated management.

Below you can access the projects that are currently being implemented in the country within the framework of UNESCO’s Natural Sciences Sector.
