Dominica has one natural site inscribed on the World Heritage List.

The country was assisted by UNESCO in planning heritage-related tourist activities designed to promote sustainable development.

The country participated in the implementation of the cultural tourism programme related to the Slave Route in the Caribbean and was active during the International Year for the Commemoration of the Struggle against Slavery and its Abolition (2004).

As a State Party to the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, Dominica
is trying to revitalize the art of the masquerade and to preserve its musical traditions.

Like its neighbours, Dominica is dependent on the music industry which is linked to arts and crafts as a source of income and cultural tourism. UNESCO has also lent support to the book industry.

Youth Path, a regional intersectoral programme aimed at poverty reduction through tourism, has led to the creation of a traditional village and management training of young persons. This includes awareness-building in relation to HIV and AIDS, the ravages of drug abuse, and methods for resolving conflicts in a peaceful manner.
