Guyana

Guyana joined UNESCO on March 21, 1967. The country is covered by the Organization's office in Kingston, Jamaica.

Guyana is a member of IOCARIBE, a regional subsidiary body of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC), which promotes and coordinates marine scientific research.

Guyana is participating actively in the UNESCO-World Tourism Organization (WTO). cultural tourism programme on the Slave Route in the Caribbean.

As of September 2006, Guyana has 41 schools participating in the UNESCO’s Associated Schools Project Network (ASPnet).

The Director-General of UNESCO, Koïchiro Matsuura, visited Guyana in 2003.
