Africa is known all over the world for its rich cultures and talented artists. However, there is a need for an infrastructure or a support system that could help cultural institutions and skilled teachers to work together to train the youth in various learning environments through arts education at the local, national, regional and global levels.

As highlighted in the Regional Conference on Arts Education in Africa (Port Elizabeth, 2001), the existing school curricula in Africa are to be re-examined to ensure that these meet the cultural aspirations of the continent’s people.
