At a moment when almost all the countries of the region were in the process of reformulating the school curricula in order to meet the new challenges of the contemporary world, UNESCO held a Regional Meeting of Experts on Arts Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (Uberaba, 2001).

The objectives that have been set for improving the education situation are not limited to enrolment figures but also place special emphasis on the quality of education required to awaken intellectual curiosity, talent and emotions. To introduce arts education is essentially to teach children to be creative.
