Kazakhstan is represented on the World Heritage List by two cultural sites.

With the support of the UNESCO Office in Almaty and in collaboration with Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan has elaborated a strategy to inscribe West Tien-Shan as a transboundary World Heritage site. The authorities of Kazakhstan are also working with the China and the States Parties of Central Asia on the preparation of a serial World Heritage nomination of the Silk Roads.

In the area of cultural industries, Kazakhstan is encouraging its craftspeople through the Seal of Excellence Programme.

Other areas of cooperation between Kazakhstan and UNESCO include intercultural dialogue and the sustainable development of cultural tourism. In the framework of the programme on Intercultural dialogue in Central Asia, it is a member of the International Institute for the Study of Nomadic Civilizations and the International Institute for Central Asian Studies.
