    Uzbekistan joined UNESCO on 26 October 1993. The country is covered by the UNESCO Office in Tashkent. Uzbekistan participates in EDUCAIDS, a UNESCO-led response to HIV and AIDS. This initiative aims to address the impact of HIV/AIDS, prevent the spread of HIV and support education systems related to HIV/AIDS learning environments.

    Uzbekistan holds five UNESCO Chairs and has one UNEVOC Centre. As of September 2006, the country has 26 schools participating in the UNESCO’s Associated Schools Project Network (ASPnet).
