The country hosts the UNESCO Cluster Office to Djibouti and Ethiopia in Addis Ababa.

Rainfall and surface rainfall are highly variable in Ethiopia, and droughts are frequent. Ethiopia’s involvement in the earth sciences and water management projects is steadily growing. It is developing case studies on Integrated Water Ressources Management (IWRM) for the Hydrology for the Environment, Life and Policy (HELP) Programme and the World Water Assessment Programme (WWAP), as well as participating in several earth sciences research projects.
