New tool for promotion of Romanian Cultural Heritage
A Cultural Heritage Info Centre inaugurated in Sibiu, with the support of UNESCO-BRESCE, in order to facilitate and promote cultural tourism in Romania

sibiu-012-medium.jpg Visitors and tourists can make use of a new instrument for appreciating the richness of Romanian cultural heritage. Thanks to the support of UNESCO Office in Venice and Cooperazione Italiana, on 24 April 2007 the Romanian NGO Mioritics Associations inaugurated the first "Cultural Heritage Info Centre" in Sibiu, this year’s European Capital of Culture.

Main purpose of the Centre will be to provide information about cultural sites and routes in the Sibiu area, and more in general over main features of Romanian cultural heritage, including UNESCO World Heritage sites. Centre’s activities will also include the organisation of cultural events, the promotion of local tangible and intangible heritage, as well as the production and distribution of informative materials (website www.fortifiedchurches.com, brochures, maps, programme of events etc).

The Centre, located at the very heart of Sibiu historical area, thus intends to become a much-needed point of reference for all visitors interested in Romanian cultural heritage, with an aim to support and facilitate cultural tourism in the region.

The public inauguration took place at the presence of the Mayor of Sibiu, the Secretary of State of Ministry of Culture and Cults of Romania, the Head of BRESCE Culture Section, the Italian Consul in Timisoara, as well as numerous journalists from local and national media.
