Romania

Romania has seven sites on the World Heritage List, and its Tentative List includes cultural and natural heritage sites. One of these cultural sites, the Historic Centre of Sighişoara, attracted a great deal of attention owing to a project to build a theme-park in the vicinity. Fortunately, this project was eventually abandoned.

The restoration of the Probata monastery was undertaken with the help of UNESCO/Japan Funds-in-Trust.
In the field of intangible heritage, the Calus tradition, a Romanian ritual dance, was proclaimed a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity in 2005.
Regarding intercultural dialogue, Romania established a UNESCO Chair for Intercultural and Interreligious Studies and Exchange at the University of Bucharest.
